"When tragic events occur in our lives, it can seem like a winter of darkness enfolds our spirits as we walk through the shadows. Loved ones we held dear, relationships we depended on, or a way of life we were once comfortable with can all be taken away, sometimes in an instant. An old friend of mine once told me a story about a mighty tree that grew in the forest but one stormy night came crashing down in the high winds. It left a huge scar in the forest canopy, but over the coming days other younger trees grew into the clearing until they too became as mighty and as fruitful as their old friend before them. In the same way we find that out of every difficulty arises an opportunity, a new beginning, a new awakening, the night with it's shadows is gone, a new dawn beckons us to awake and discover afresh the joy and beauty of life."
